„What will be the hot but sometimes overlooked SAP skills in 2010? " A former colleague who is now working at a system integrator asked me this question when we both meet at the airport in Düsseldorf on our way home for the holiday season. Hays update due after £30m fine

RECRUITMENT firms will come under the spotlight this week as both Hays and Michael Page International (MPI) deliver trading updates on their progress during the recession.

Hays' update on Thursday has been overshadowed by news of its eye-watering £30.4 million fine from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). Almost £40m of penalties were handed out to six firms by the OFT, with Hays taking by far the largest fine.

Lloyds cuts IT contractor pay rates (ContractorUK)

Lloyds TSB, the part nationalised British bank, has downgraded the pay of its IT contractors, telling them they will work for up to 15 per cent less or face termination.

The bank has agreed with its recruiters that all IT freelancers will drop their daily rate by 10 per cent, or more, if they wish to keep their contract, under its plan to save billions.

A spokeswoman for the bank said: "Lloyds Banking Group has announced some changes to the rates for contractors within its group IT division."

ITJobsWatch.co.uk ranks the best paid permanent IT jobs according to published data on job boards. This gives an indication only to the level of remuneration to different type of IT jobs. It does not reflect contractor jobs and it is offered salaries in the UK only (in GBP). Nevertheless it can be useful reading for clients and IT consultants what the current market is like.
