Bringing Open Source Best Practices into Corporations Using a Software Forge - Dirk Riehle
Dirk Riehle from SAP Labs Palo Alto has the best philosophical outlook in this space in the world. In this reference he is simply summarising an upcoming talk he is giving in Hamburg but this link leads to a cascade of links to some important references, all of which will be given url references here. The interesting thing about this Riehle idea is that a Corporate Software Forge is actually not unlike a CASE tool, a fantastic idea, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is the appropriate strategic objective if you want to manage your own internal forge, which might in the end intermingle some open source R objects and some C++ or SQL or JAVA. This is the future of software development, not unlike the past really;-
In the related post below, Dirk Riehle discusses Open Collaboration using Corporate Forges generally but then goes on to discuss Open Source Best Practice, he then continues to provide a detailed case study of a Forge actually in deployment at SAP. This is an important piece of work in the science of software engineering (particular;y given the quality of the citeable references) and is a crucial reference for all those interested in the development process.
