TOGAF Version 9 -- The Open Group Architecture Framework

TOGAF 9 FrameworkWe posted this reference below in February this year & have recently re-referred it in a discussion of The Point About Stress Tests

A Layered Integrated Enterprise Solution Architecture for Financial Predictive Analytics

rapier testing gerinishI posted this blog note at the beginning of this year and I am replaying it here to help me develop a chain of content which can serve as guidelines for those developing solution architetures to respond to the new world of banking superivision which is developing right now. If you believe that Stress Testing (in an Open fashion) is going to be the basis of transperency and disclosure and thus a large part of banking supervision is going to be predicated upon what I once called 'The Calculus of Securitisation'; then there is a chain of content on this site which will be useful to you. If you are involved in the calculation of fair value for imparied assets or in the related process of management of a 'Bad Bank Model' then these contributions here in the field of Financial Predictive Analytics will be of interest to you.

Open Source Projects = Horizontal innovation networks - by and for users

Eric von Hippel. MIT Sloan School of Management

ABSTRACT

Innovation development, production, distribution and consumption networks canwheel of racing yacht britannia 1901

be built up horizontally – with actors consisting only of innovation users (more

precisely, “user/self-manufacturers”). Some open source software projects are

examples of such networks, and examples can be found in the case of physical

products as well. In this paper we discuss three conditions under which user

innovation networks can function entirely independently of manufacturers. We

then explore related empirical evidence and conclude that conditions favorable to

horizontal user innovation networks are often present in the economy.

This is a US Government audit of regulators and banks risk management systems. It is page after page of damning findings clearly stated (no pussy-footing, punch-pulling, mealy-mouthed politeness, but very straight) of weakness, stupidity and failure by regulators and banks. Could all of this be equally true in Europe? No such report has been published in Europe!

The role of organizational politics in Software Engineering and Software Architecture design

The topic of organizational politics is not new. The concept surfaced in 1958 and in early 1980's the topic was actively studied and analyzed. There is no definitive guidance since it's a challenging topic to study; after all this is about the behavior of people. There are many factors that shape the game of politics: individual values and ethics, organization's structure and the way of life (e.g. "cooking books"), environmental conditions (e.g. market stress), and performance reward criteria (e.g. measuring and rewarding the wrong results). What's clear from research is that there is a distinction between an actual political behavior and a perception of a political behavior. For a software architect it's important to recognize and manage both.
